There are two goals for the Orientation and Training session:
1. Inform parents and guardians about the Seattle Debate Foundation and its programs, including the Seattle UDL
2. Train parents and guardians who are interested in becoming volunteers with the Seattle UDL.
This event is open to all parents of current or former debaters, parents of potential debaters, any anyone else who is interested in learning more about the Seattle Urban Debate League.
The orientation session will include an introductory address by Sean Harris, SDF executive director, a viewing of the “60 Minutes” program featuring Urban Debate Leagues, and a question & answer session for parents. Snacks will be served during the orientation.
The volunteer training will focus on teaching parents the skills necessary to become an effective debate judge, tournament assistant, or program mentor. Debate experience is not necessary to participate in the training.
